Kate was born in May 1980,
just on the outskirts of London. She is a twin
and was born just 1 minute before her sister
Karen. Kate also has an older sister and a
younger brother.
Throughout her school years
she excelled in Languages, Sports and Drama
(her favourite subject). Kate enjoyed being
part of 3 school productions and considered
Drama School after completing her A-Levels
in 1998. Her ambition to earn a good wage and
buy a home of her own led her to work in IT
Support instead.
“I
began as an office junior in 98. Within a year
I was a secretary for an IT Recruitment Company,
and by the year 2000 I was contracting for
an Investment Bank in the city working as IT
Support!”
My school friend had decks in his bedroom
at the time, and I loved going round to play
with his music. He gave me a few lessons and
I told him I wanted to be a DJ but after only
a few weeks practice it wasn’t meant
to be. Kate packed her suitcases and decided
to go and live in Tokyo Japan with her boyfriend
who moved there to work. Their new life was
shortlived after the September 11 attacks had
a massive impact on her boyfriends company.
They were moved back to London & Kate returned
to her IT Support job.
It was Kates sister Karen
who would be the reason Kate became the first
female to win reality tv show Big Brother in
2002. “My
sister is a tv addict & watches every soap & reality
show. She asked me to print her an application
form for the 3rd series of BB and when i told
her it was 25 pages long she said ‘Oh
forget it, I cant be ar*ed’. So one day
I was reading through the form and decided
to apply myself.”
Kate sent her application form to Big Brother
at the very last minute and her sister cried
when she found out Kate was to be a housemate
in the 3rd series. “I told Karen 2 days
before Big Brother started that I was going
to be a housemate. She was aware that I got
quite far in the audition process, but never
dreamed her sister would be appearing on her
favourite tv show! It was quite ironic, as
Karen was the BB fan and had to explain to
me what the show involved! Nobody is more proud
of me than my twin and I love her dearly for
pursuading me to take the path I did.”
Kate vowed to be the first girl winner and
put her £70,000 winnings towards her
own home. On July 26th 2002, she was announced
the winner of Big Brother 3. With over 3 million
votes and 9.4 million viewers, Kates life was
about to change quite dramatically.....
Kate
made a best selling fitness dvd shortly after
winning Big Brother, to lose the 18lb she had
put on in the 9 weeks she spent living in the
house. It sold thousands of copies and is one
of her proudest achievements. “As
a big fan of boxing, I decided to release a
boxercise workout to help others get in shape
as well as myself. I think Britain is slowly
becoming a lazy nation and I was thrilled people
bought my DVD to motivate themselves in getting
fit.”
Since 2002 Kate presented Channel 4’s
daily Breakfast show ‘RI:SE’ with
Iain Lee. She has co-presented FIVE’s ‘Party
In The Park’, ‘The Brit Awards’ with
Foxy for Capital FM, and enjoyed success hosting
a top weekly show also on Capital FM - ‘Hit
Music Sunday’ with Andi Peters. Kate
has also presented for Celebrity Extra on Living
TV, reported on FIVEs ‘Boxing Academy’ and
was recently a strong contender in ITV’s ‘Celebrity
Wrestling’. Over the summer 2005, Kate
wrote a popular weekly column for New! Magazine,
covering topics like Big Brother 6, to fashion
music and gossip.
DJing has always been at the
back of Kates mind, since the days of playing
vinyl at her friends house and she has never
been happier to finally do what she always
dreamt of doing.
“I have always been into music and for
2 years, made cassettes for all my mates at
school. I would sit at home every sunday and
make tapes of my favourite house and garage
songs. The amount of tapes I still own with “Kates
House Mix” is ridiculous, but I cant
throw them away!
Music was also the only thing
I really missed when I was in Big Brother.
I didn’t care
about TV, my mobile phone, food or drink. All
I wanted was my cd collection. Being a really
keen clubber since the days when I’d
use my elder sisters driving licence for fake
I.D, I guess I really got the bug to DJ after
going to Ibiza in 2004.
It was my 4th time
to the island and I went with my boyfriend
at the time, his friends and my friends. We
only stayed for a week and hit the clubs nearly
every night. After hearing the likes of Erick
Morillo play at Pacha, I’d
be sitting in a quiet bar the following night
just itching to be back in the clubs, buzzing
off the DJ’s, dancing my socks off and
making new friends! On my return to England
I vowed to save up, buy some decks and be DJing
within a year. When Celebrity Wrestling finished
filming in early 2005, my journey began.
Locking
myself away for 6 months I originally thought
would be hell. But looking back, It was such
good fun learning how to DJ and I cant wait
to learn lots more. I know I have a long way
to go before I really fulfill the ultimate
dream, but I am having the most fun finally
playing out. Big thank you to GN, RO, NN, SH,
SM and ST (You know who you are). Your continuing
advice, support and faith in me are so very
much appreciated......
